Advance Notice: I’ll Be Disconnecting This Blog from WordPress.com on 1st February

I’ve been mulling this over for a while now, since before the New Year, but now I’m ready to go through with it.

This blog has always been self-hosted, but was subsequently linked to WordPress.com via the Jetpack plugin as a means to make my blogging life somewhat easier.

However, it turns out that WordPress.com is a Pain In The Posterior when used in this manner, both to get the integration fully working on my blog and to manage at WordPress’s end. I’m singularly unimpressed with their apps for Mac and iOS, and ended up going back to writing posts directly in my browser. And while I could use the WordPress apps to read other folk’s blogs, I already use Inoreader for that, which has the advantage of not being limited to just WordPress sites.

I am aware that I have quite a few folks who do use WordPress to subscribe to updates from my blog, and I don’t want to leave you guys behind. One option you have is to use the RSS feed for my site to stay updated — there are lots of apps and services you can use to do that, I personally use Inoreader but there’s also Feedly which is probably the best-known service. The alternative would a newsletter, but that would require some extra work to set up at my end.

So tell me, dear readers — which option do you prefer? If there’s enough interest, I’ll set up the newsletter and invite you to sign up for that.

Cutting the cord with WordPress.com will mean several fewer things for me to deal with here, and right now I’m all about simplifying my online life as much as possible.

Heading to Virtual Black Rock City this Sunday!

Greetings Burn2 VRC Week Performer, We are so happy to have you as a performer. I am confirming your date and time: 8/30 - NOON - Spiffy Voxel - DJ Spitfire

Sooo… last week I got confirmation from the organizers at Burn2 in Second Life that I’ve got a slot there this coming Sunday at 12pm SLT for the VRC Week event!

As with my previous performance at Burn2 last month, I’m planning on simulcasting across Second Life on Gorean Whip Radio, with the approval of station management. I’d normally be broadcasting at that time anyway, so no danger of conflict with other shows.

I’ve not yet finalised what I’ll play, but since it falls on August Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK, when the Notting Hill Carnival would usually be taking place — but not this year, thanks to Covid-19 — I’ll try and fit in some reggae, ska and calypso. 🙂

If you’re around in Second Life on Sunday, you’re welcome to drop by the Burn2 performance stage (note that they’re in the process of building currently, but feel free to have a look around.) Otherwise, you can tune in via Gorean Whip Radio (here’s the stream address), or wait until next week when I’ll upload and post the recording of my set.

In other news, I’ve been doing some more tweaking of my avatar. My search for a new deep blue skin has finally ended — the appropriately named Peacock skin from CORE, which makes my rainbow spot tattoo and makeup really pop! I also found some new mesh eyes that I’m truly happy with, the Hypno from Venge. Unlike a lot of the others I’ve tried, these can be modified, so I could add some glow to them. Perfect for staring down haters and undesirables, or perhaps enthralling the unwary… muwahahahaha! 😀

Look into my eyes… you are feeling very sleepy… you need to read more of my blog! 😉

You might notice that a few things are missing, namely my ears and antennae. The sad fact is that neither of those items support Bakes On Mesh, meaning it’s much more hassle to texture them, and I cannot apply any shine to them. So, I’ve ditched them for now. On the plus side that reduces my avatar complexity quite a bit, as does the removal of the need for an extra tattoo layer to hide the baked in fingernails and toenails from my previous skin.

That’s all the news for now. I have a review coming up for an alternative mesh body, which I’ll get done and posted later this week. And I’ll try and take some photos from Burn2 on Sunday to share with you all.

Peace and love, stay safe, and look after yourselves and each other! *mwahs*
