Second Life Avatar Challenge

This post was originally published in March 2019.

The other day, Strawberry Singh, whose blog I read regularly, posted one of her occasional challenges to get people to show off their Second Life avatars. It has been a while since I talked in detail about mine (if you’re interested in reading my previous post on my avatar’s evolution, you can find it here.)

(Re)introduction!

Hi! My name is Supermarine Spitfire, but you can call me Spiffy. 🙂

I’m a blue-skinned, rainbow speckled alien with pink braided hair who lives and works in Second Life.

I use this blog to talk about what I get up to there. I’m usually exploring, shopping, building stuff or chilling out. I also work in-world as a DJ, radio show host, and maker of radio adverts, promos and jingles.

I’ve been a member of Second Life since February 2015, and started DJ-ing in August of that year. In November 2017 I joined Gorean Whip Radio as a DJ. I became their advertising manager in October 2019.

In real life, I life and work in the UK, north of London. I’ve been a software developer, graphic designer, web designer and tech support in my time. I’ve also been in involved in printing, CD/DVD authoring and audio/video editing. Outside of work, I enjoy photography, writing, reading and making digital art.

I’ve been online in one way or another since 1989, and involved in a lot of online communities during all that time. I got my first home computer in 1983, and my first PC in 1992. Since 2012 I’ve been a Mac user, having used them for work since the early 2000s.

The person I am in Second Life is an expression of my creativity and also of who I am deep inside. I’m someone who’s borderline / high-functioning autistic, introverted and highly-sensitive. I find Second Life to be a great way to deal with how I perceive myself. I’ve developed a lot of close friendships within the virtual world. With support and encouragement I’ve come out of my shell and grown as a person.

Well, that’s enough wittering from me for now. Here’s to much more blogging in 2020! If you’d like to keep in touch and find out when I post something here, you can follow this blog on WordPress.com. Or you can add my blog’s RSS feed to your feed reader of choice.
